Programming radios
A Chirp file is used to program many radios including the cheap Chinese handhelds. This file was developed by David VK5HDW and contains all the South Australian and Victorian repeaters plus many CB UHF frequencies..
To get it on the website (WordPress didn’t allow .IMG files) I’ve changed the file type to .XYZ so here’s how to use it.
- Download the ZIP file by clicking here
- Use WINZIP or similar to UNZIP the file to a directory where you can find the Wouxun_KG-UV8D_202403.xyz file
- Change the name to Wouxun KG-UV8D.img
- Load the file into Chirp which can be downloaded here

National Electricity Dashboard
Simple electronics and projects for the beginner.
The above site was requested by MaryAnne who is a member of a Girl Scout Troop researching projects in their adventures with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). MaryAnne suggests the links within it will be helpful for people young and old who would benefit from the simple explanations.
This next site has been requested by two Scouts Liam and Jack. The South East Radio Group is pleased to help them in their exploration of electronics and radio. Unfortunately the site has unusual checking on it that prevents a direct link. You’ll need to copy the link into a browser. The site has some useful information for those beginning in electronics.

Wire antenna calculator – this is very good and takes into consideration all the factors that affect design. Should be a short cut on every amateurs browser.
